What’s next for the Miami Hurricanes?
Posted March 13, 2019 06:33:15Miami Hurricanes quarterback Jacob Eason and offensive lineman Chris Conte are both headed to the NFL Draft.
The Hurricanes’ coaching staff has been in contact with Eason’s representatives, but they haven’t made any moves on the quarterback.
Eason is ranked No. 1 in the 2019 NFL Draft by CBSSports.com, and Conte is the No. 3 player in the 2018 NFL Draft, according to ESPN’s draft rankings.
Miami has a lot of needs this offseason.
Offensive tackle Jonathan Martin will likely be released, and linebacker Koa Misi will be entering the final year of his contract.
The Hurricanes have been active in free agency, signing three-time Pro Bowl linebacker Deon Bush, four-time All-Pro cornerback Dwayne Harris and three-year starter Joe Thuney.
They have a solid defense and a top-five offense in 2019.
Eaton is the Hurricanes’ top offensive lineman heading into the 2019 season.
He started the first nine games of the season for Miami before suffering a season-ending knee injury on Sept. 13.
He played through the injury for the rest of the year, but didn’t play a down in Miami’s playoff loss to Penn State.
Easter will take over the reins from Eason at quarterback.
He had a solid rookie season, completing 65.9 percent of his passes for 1,933 yards and 19 touchdowns.
He also threw for 1 in 13 interceptions.
Etienne is the team’s top wide receiver, receiving 85 catches for 1.737 yards and seven touchdowns.
Etson had a good rookie season in 2019, catching 25 passes for 336 yards and four touchdowns.
He caught the ball from the slot, ran the ball to his right, and hit receivers like Etson in the slot.
He’s a great fit for Eason, who was a big part of Miami’s success last season.
