How to buy a guitar and other musical instruments
Huey (AP) Buyer beware: a new tool that lets you buy musical instruments for less than the cost of the originals may make your shopping trip more rewarding.
The online guitar auction site Guitar Center said Tuesday that it will sell a range of instruments ranging from a vintage Gibson Les Paul to a modern electric guitar.
The site’s founder, Robert B. Lee, said the instruments will be available for a one-time fee.
Lee is the founder of Guitar Center and was the lead designer of the popular online guitar auctions site eBay in the 1980s.
Lee also founded Guitar Center’s sister company, Guitar Center Guitar, in 2011.
The site will list guitars and electric guitars on its website for $199 to $299, depending on the model and condition of the instrument.
Lee said he plans to sell the instruments for $99 or less if they have a factory direct seller rating.
Lee told the AP that the company has been able to sell guitars for much less than their original retail price by taking advantage of online auction sites.
Lee said he and his business partner, Brian Rader, plan to open the new site in the coming months.
Lee did not say when the site would open or when the price would be set.
Guitar Center was established in the 1990s by Lee and Rader.
