The Christmas Song – Christmas instrumental music
The Christmas song from the film, The Snowman, has been immortalised by the Christmas Island film director Prakash Javadekar, who has now made a documentary titled The Christmas Song about it.
The song, which was written in the 1920s by British musician William Hill, is a classic Christmas instrumental with its signature organ, cymbal and strings.
Javadekar tells how it was a lovely song, and the lyrics of the song have been preserved in the film.
“I think the song is actually the most wonderful song in the world,” Javadek said in an interview to NDTV.
“The song is very sentimental.
I had the pleasure of being able to sing with the musicians on this occasion and the singers were such great musicians.”
Javak said he was inspired to create the documentary after a trip to a music store in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh where he found a collection of instruments he could use for the film.
“I went to the store and I found a small wooden instrument that had been used by the folk singers of Himavariya.
The instrument was used by villagers for their song,” Javak said.
Jvadek’s team also found a recording of the Christmas song on Kashmiri singer, Murali, who is a famous folk singer.
“He had a very special way of singing and he had an Indian accent.
I was just fascinated by how he sang, so I contacted him,” Javadesh said.”
When I met him I was a little bit worried, but he was very kind.
He would play the song on the piano.
It was his first time singing, and I had to record it.”
Javalak’s team is now looking for musicians who can play the Christmas tune on the film and then create a video that would capture the performance.
“We are trying to find the perfect musician for this film, and we are also looking to find some old songs,” Javader said.
Javadesh has also written two other films about Christmas, The Holiday Song and The Song of the Heart.
The films, Kyaan and The Story of Christmas, will be released in December 2018. Read more
